Tax evasion has been a universal problem throughout history with manifold economic consequences. Hardest hit are developing countries, with evidence indicating that half or more of the taxes that could be collected remain uncollected and/or unaccounted for due to a combination of tax evasion, avoidance, tax exemptions and corruption.
